England: First call-ups for Chalobah, Maguire

In what could be a turning point for the Three Lions, Southgate has earlier today called up 28 players for the World Cup qualifying fixtures against Malta and Slovakia, respectively in 1 and 4 September.

England are currently topping their group with a two-point advantage on Slovakia, with Slovenia being only three points behind and therefore within reach of the qualifying spot by the end of the international break. This England list marks the first England call-ups of young defender Harry Maguire and midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah, both in great form for Leicester and Watford, respectively. Adam Lallana will be missing for the Slovakia and Malta games, whereas Rooney is absent following his international retirement announcement on Tuesday.
