Barcelona closing in on Jean-Michaël Seri transfer

Despite FC Barcelona’s renewed interest in Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembélé in the past two weeks, the exceedingly high asking prices of Dortmund and Liverpool seem to have had a chilling effect on Barcelona’s interest in the two superstars, both wanted as Neymar replacements following his record-breaking transfer to PSG. However, it seems that another Barcelona target from July should be getting closer to Catalonia and farther from last season’s Ligue 1 surprise team, OGC Nice.

Despite signing Paulinho in order to bolster the quality of their midfield for a reported amount of €40m, the Catalan club is ready to pay the same amount in order to bring in another signing; Jean-Michaël Seri. The Ivorian midfielder has been dubbed as a ‘perfect fit for Barcelona’ by club legend Xavi Hernandez and could become the core of the club’s midfield in the upcoming years, if he were to sign for Barcelona. And things have never been so close to a conclusion here in Spain.

According to The Sun, Seri’s agent is currently in Barcelona negotiating a deal for his client as Barcelona could be set to pay Nice’s asking price of €40 million for the midfielder. Jean-Michaël Seri was a key player for Nice last season and was named in the Ligue 1 UNFP Team of the Year following a world-class season of 7 goals and 9 assists in 34 Ligue 1 games whilst occupying the role of playmaker for Nice. Seri has been dubbed as ‘the new Xavi’ by many ever since he was linked to a move to Barcelona last winter, and even more now that he is set to join Barça on a record sale deal from OGC Nice.
