Barcelona signs Colombian defender for £8million

After losing out on the signing of Colombian star Davinson Sanchez, it seems as though FC Barcelona were quick on finding a replacement signing, without having to go too far away from Davinson’s register – replacing the Colombian… with another Colombian.

Following a rather disappointing defensive showing against Real Madrid in both home and away fixtures of the Spanish Supercup, reports claimed Ernesto Valverde has been seeking reinforcements in the backbone of the starting XI, which was only one of the many faults that cause Barcelona’s defeat.

In order to bolster the quality of his roster, Valverde has then completed the signing of Palmeiras defender and 22 year-old Colombia international Yerry Mina, for a reported fee of around £8 million. An agreement between Palmeiras and Barcelona has been found for the centre back, which involves Mina staying at Palmeiras until January 2018.

Rumors were announcing the potential arrival of Inigo Martinez to Barcelona from Real Sociedad, but it seems as though the Catalan club settled for a less confirmed player, yet just as skilled and experienced.

The Colombia international (9 caps, 3 goals) is currently recovering from a foot injury and is expected to be back in the next couple of weeks to play in the Brazilian Serie A, where he was named in the Team of the Year last season.
